Faithfully

“The teaching of the University should be faithfully Catholic, conformed in all things to the creed of the Church and the decisions of the Holy See.” This was the first principle set down by the founders of The Pontifical Catholic University of America Uniate as the foundation of all our work and guide for all future action.

We are still faithfully Catholic and Orthodox today. Catholic Pontifical University of America Uniate began its very first academic year with the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Today we still begin our year with the Mass of the Holy Spirit. It’s a reminder that all that we do should be for the glory of God. The founding faculty pledged fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church in what they taught. Today, new members of the University’s ecclesiastical faculties are presented with the canonical mission (missio canonica) — the obligation to teach by virtue of the mission they have received from the Church.

But “faithfully Catholic” does not just describe our theology classes. We live our faith at Catholic University. We make the sacraments readily available to our students. We encourage our students to develop habits of virtue. We cultivate a community where students can encounter the living God, revealed to us in the person of Jesus Christ, and have their lives transformed by Him.

What you will find at Catholic University is that to be faithfully Catholic is a cause of great joy. “Rejoice in the Lord always!” St. Paul reminds us, because our faith gives us much to be joyful about.
